Mosaic & Mural Public Art Projects
I support student artists through the process of conceptualizing, designing, and executing public mosaics and murals. Projects include the garden mosaic for the façade of the Community Arts Center in Woonsocket, RI; fire, water, earth and sky character mosaics for the new playground at the International Charter School in Pawtucket, RI; the four seasons mosaic for Matsuoka Junior High School in Fukui, Japan; and the FRIENDS mural for the International Baccalaureate program at the Highland Junior High School in St. Paul, MN. Note: Both RI mosaics included hand-made ceramic bas-relief sculptures in addition to commercially produced tiles.
Puppet Making & Parades
I work with students to create larger than life puppets out of papier mache for parades and performances. Projects include MLK Jr. Day Parade for Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Center, A Parade of Memory and Thanksgiving for the Alice Austen house Museum, and the Rite of Spring in the NYC Parks (done with Puppeteers Cooperative).
Documentary Photography
I teach students camera basics using a manual SLR and also digital editing. For this project, students documented their neighborhood.
